Hebrews 2:1-3  (please read)

Two young men were fishing above a low dam on a river near their hometown.  As they were concentrating on catching fish, they were unaware that they had drifted until they were not far from the water flowing over the dam.  When they realized their situation, the current near the dam had become too powerful for them to keep their boat from going over.  Below the dam the water was dashing with strong force over great boulders and through crevices in the rocks. Caught by the swirling waters under the rocks, they never came to the surface.  After days of relentless searching, the divers finally found one body, and then, two or three days later, the other.

Drifting can be realized by an individual who simply FLOATS through life, never accomplishing much and certainly not concerned about temporal or eternal consequences that lie ahead! (Dangerous!!!)
The danger of drifting is not limited to the physical realm! In the physical/temporal realm we’re simply wasting time and opportunities!
The above text seems to warn us about a more dangerous drifting – a “spiritual drifting” that is all too subtle so that many are not concerned.
Have any of you been drifting for some time? Would you know it if you were?
It’s a feeling of “mere existence.” It’s going through the motions without any true satisfaction! It can lead to disappointment and disillusionment.

All through life there are times when God calls us to re-dedication. After a childhood conversion I noticed the need for youth to rededicate themselves:
·       Junior High
·       End of High school
·       Near the end of College
·       Marriage
·       Thirty years old
·       Again, and again, and again!
There are certain times and phases in life when we need to get refocused and “back on the straight and narrow!”That time may be NOW.  Drifting must not continue any longer!

Our forefathers knew what it was like to become a sacrifice for the sake of liberty!
They left their mother country to give birth to a new nation, but Jesus left His homeland (heaven) to give birth to a great nation of people!
The signers of the Declaration of Independence literally gave their all for this nation. When they signed that document, they sign their own death warrant!
·       Five were captured by the British and tortured before they died.
·       Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
·       Two lost their sons in the war.
·       Nine either died from war wounds or other hardships because of the war.
But, standing firm and courageous, these men pledged:
“For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the Divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor!”
They declared that “we are endowed with certain inalienable rights, Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness!”
Jesus signed His death warrant with His own blood, “that we might have life and have it more abundantly!”
·       This is the cost for freedom – the Cross!
·       Death is usually the cost for freedom in a fallen world.
·       If it weren’t for the Cross, we would be enslaved by sin today, “But God so loved…”
·       If it wasn’t for the many who gave their lives in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WW I & II, Korea, Viet Nam and the present War on Terror, we would be enslaved by tyrannical and totalitarian regimes!
Our Flag proudly flies as a symbol of our nation’s freedom:
·       Red – sacrifice
·       White – Pure intent
·       Blue – valor and courage
